Unless Tkachuk completely face plants, his contract should at least be market value for the full 8 years.

Everything is a gamble of course, but just basing this on likelihoods. Huberdeau and Weegar could buck the trends and it wouldn't be absolutely shocking if one of them did, I just don't see it as likely or a good strategy to expect it.

Side note... Looking at Youtube clips of Weegar, he seems like a bit of a hothead that can piss off referees. I think there are at least two separate recent incidents where he was penalized or ejected for throwing fits, one where he swung his stick at an official. Given how the Flames seem to be under the microscope, I hope he can keep himself composed especially in BoA games where the refs will take any excuse to give the Oilers long powerplays.
The 24.6 year old wanted to leave.

That's the bottom line.

So you go out and get the best deal possible.

If that's Huberdeau signed until he's 37 it's not ideal, but it's still better than getting a terrible package.

If that's Huberdeau moved for a 1st and a 2nd no worries ... team is decimated, but you have two firsts, a prospect, a 2nd and Weegar.

The asset haul was great, no do the right thing.
