Easy to imagine if they were just any nameless team. But this is Columbus. How many years since its inception has Columbus outperformed Calgary?

18-19 in the year of the upsets, although Calgary finished significantly higher in the standings. Aside from that..........

To say Columbus will revamp its long-held and well-earned identity of mediocrity suddenly when Sillinger? And Roslovic are the guys centering its top lines going forward, I think I'm scratching my head at that suggestion, at least at how things looks presently.

Flames have to do some work with contracts but their cap ability next offseason is worth making note of. They're already good (especially in relation to their division) even after the swaps made, but can also bolster their team by learning from their previous cap spending missteps and adding significant forward skill next year.

If the Tkachuk deal went south as most expected I'd agree wholeheartedly, but this whale of a trade was a fate-changer.

Flames gained 5 years of competitive sustainability to their future if they do well with the parts from this deal and take advantage of the upcoming cap flexibility. They also have their 1st rounders moving forward including in an elite draft so I don't see why they can't stockpile and reinforce their team a few years down the road as well.

People so quick to deem a perpetually underperforming club future juggernauts when they're not even a perrenial cap spending team always leaves me raising an eyebrow.
