We currently have 6 guys (Weegar, Tanev, Andersson, Hanifin, Kylington, Zadorov) who can play top 4 and 2 guys who can play bottom pairing (Mackey, Valimaki, and Stone if he returns).
There's no "other ways" to look for help, we don't have any surplus at all in terms of:
- Top 6 forwards
- Top 9 forwards
- Goaltending
- NHL ready prospects
- Blue chip prospects
- Draft picks
Defense, specifically 2nd pairing defense, is exactly what we have a surplus of and is the area we need to deal from to fill the top 6 scoring forward role that is currently gaping. Hanifin is likely the only guy that is both highly valued and replaceable through a blend of the return we get and the guy replacing him from down the lineup.

That’s where I disagree; Kylington and Zadorov can play top 4 in a pinch, but I wouldn’t say that either are top 4 defensemen and not guys I want in the top 4 on a regular basis, both are better suited for bottom pairing duties.
