Here's my first post in this thread, from 2017. Over 4 1/2 years later and crypto is still useless for, you know, buying things. Where are all the applications I was told were on the near horizon? Why are so many crypto stories in the news about scams, failures and the ever-receding "future of currency"? Why is this so-called transformational technology still transforming nothing?

Nothing has happened to convince me crypto is ever going to be more than a collection of ponzi schemers, bunco artists and wild-eyed techbros with a profound understanding of math and no understanding of economics. I post in this thread in the (likely vain) hope that at least one person will be dissuaded from investing in crypto and put their money in something societally useful instead, after getting a less hype-infused view of the subject.

Maybe in early 2026 I'll finally be able to buy a donut with bitcoin or some other cryptocoin directly. I very, very, very much doubt it thoujgh.
