Yes, every team that missed the playoffs is in the lottery, but a team can only move up a maximum of 10 spots if they win.

That's why saying a traded pick is "lottery protected" is such a meaningless term -- or I guess, it could have multiple meanings, so it's tough to know. It makes more sense for them to say "top 3", "top 5", "top 10" protected.

According to what Treliving said on the radio on Saturday, the pick in this case is top 10 protected. Also, the Flyers' rights to Florida's 2024 first rounder are top 10 protected, which could impact the 2025 pick. Basically, if Florida's pick in either 2024 or 2025 is a top 10 pick, the Flames will get their 2026 first rounder. If neither 2024 or 2025 is top 10, the Flames will get Florida's 2025 first.
