This trade only buys you 1 year to try and sign both of these guys before they hit free agency. It's almost like buying time to sign or trade Tkachuk situation. It's like the Flames just gave the Panthers a gifted rugged winger in return for 2-players to think about keeping or losing next year! Sure, there's another prospect and a conditional 1st in 2025 but it'll likely be a low 1st round draft pick that gets traded away anyways. Wished the Flames would've gone for the lottery sweepstakes instead.

I feel the opposite. The more I reflect, the more I love this. Tre pulled a massive haul for Weeger and Huberdeau, a 99.9% return of big difference making assets vs. the sweepstakes of a less than 20% chance at Bedard.
Also, should neither want to sign, both who can be flipped at the deadline, where I'd think Weegar can be sold for a 1st (see Chiarot trade) and Hubs for multiple assets including a promising prospect, 1st and possibly a roster player.
You think about the potential that we have here:
a) Both players are huge impact players and we left off or a slightly below (or even ahead if Mangi further develops and Monahan is suddenly back to old form) where we were.
b) We flip both of them and some how turned Tkachuk into at least 3 first rounders, multiple prospects, etc.
This to me is the hockey gods back on our side after JG
