Honestly, it is not really fair to expect a player to immediately want to re-sign. It sucks for the Flames because we want immediate clarity, but the players have a lot to consider and do not have strong bonds here.
Instead of trying to sell them on why Calgary is a great city and the Flames a great organization, they need to appeal to why is makes business sense for them to capitalize now. They can always be traded after this season if Calgary isn’t a good personal fit.
The Flames have shown in the past that they will move players who want to be moved, so committing to a contract doesn’t mean they have to be stuck if they really want to try their luck somewhere else.
