It was over his character direction among other things. I think AEW is suffering some communications issues, as booking concerns are supposed be going through the coaches (e.g. Lynn, QT) and then elevated to Tony Khan if serious enough. Apparently Gresham didn't get to speak to Khan until only hours before the event.
It also appears Gresham is stepping away from wrestling. At least for now. That indicates something possibly more deep-rooted than frustration with a single promoter.
I think with the consolidation and direction shift of ROH and without a TV deal (as of yet), there's bound to be some churn.
