Most people would take Florida over anywhere in Canada, especially if money isn’t an issue. However, there are very few jobs there for the industry Huberdeau is in especially if he wants to be highly paid. As sad as he probably is about leaving there, there is also likely to be no vacancies there for him next year, at least if he wants to maximize his earnings.

The Flames really need a PR win here and they are probably going to offer him the moon to re-sign. The optics of having to jettison another star player either through trade of free agency is something they are going to want to avoid at all costs. Huberdeau would be wise to take advantage of this from a business perspective.

I am still pretty pessimistic about him re-signing, but there are a lot of reasons why he might. Not the least of which is negotiating off of a 115 point season.
