Flames are in a bit of a tweener spot here. They had a strong team last year and a top level coach. Really next summer when you have guys like Backlund, Lindholm, Taffoli, Tanev, Hanifan all due new contracts in a year...that's when you start the hard sell and accumulation of new assets. But it's debatable if the team as it is today is good enough to do more than just make the playoffs. If they could add another top line forward somehow, but that will be tough as they are tight on cap space now.

I hear what you’re saying, but another perspective would be that you need to keep developing internal solutions since you aren’t getting Spezza or Thornton or Perry to come here for league min. Shortcuts almost always backfire.
