This trade sounds a lot better than it actually looks IMO. It’s basically going all in for 2023 and if after, Huberdeau and Weager decide to test the market, then what did we really get out of it?
Matthew Tkachuk’s (extended) value was off the charts and could’ve kick started badly needed rebuild or at the very least, necessary futures with long shelf lives, potential and team control.
Not a fan of this trade. Too much risk without enough upside.

This is a win now trade, no denying it. But a rebuild really wasn’t in the cards. Edwards wants the Flames to be a playoff team, especially with the arena negotiations likely to resume.
Given that mandate, this is an excellent trade.
