But the futures of all futures are at the top end of the upcoming draft and that’s no longer an option. So why punt the window down another year when you have a generational draft upcoming?

So, some sourness that we are laying the tracks in front of a moving train isn’t unreasonable. Without another move this trade is…perplexing. The group as it stands isn’t good enough, we need to add more.
Because they weren’t going to be in a position to tear it completely down by next July.

Take a page out of Ottawa’s book and overpay these guys to keep them in the fold - they’re both studs.

Huberdeau replaces Gaudreau, and we swap Tkachuk up front for Weegar at the back end.

The group as it stands isn’t good enough to beat the Avalance or Lightning or Blues, but they are good enough to beat a lot of other teams.

They have lots of prospect capital and picks to work with, plus cap space. Nearly $12M comes off the books between Monahan and Lucic alone next year.
