What this does it make this team mediocre for the next 3-4 year. Might make the playoffs a couple times, might miss, but never good enough to be a consistent Cup threat.

I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer but this is the exact opposite of what I wanted to happen. I will say though, I expected worse if the Flames were going to go in this direction.
I’m as pro rebuild as anyone, but.

Huberdeau is 2 months older than Gaudreau. He’s had 4 straight PPG+ seasons.

If we were okay giving Gaudreau 8x$10.5m at his size, I don’t see a vast difference giving Huberdeau 8x$9.76M or whatever.

6 ft 1, 201 lbs vs 5 ft 9 160 lbs.

Plus Weegar?

It’s a far cry from Stajan, Hagman, Mayers and White, give it that much.
