Well, that's certainly 'a way' to interpret my post.
Yes, I agree with you on the Rangers. I don't think they have a good team, and Shesterkin definitely hides a lot of holes on that team. Still, they have a fairly bright future IMO. That's beside the point.
Why do I want a rebuild? To be like the Rangers? To 'play the lotto and hope for the best?' LoL No. That an absolutely terrible way to summarize it.
What are the Flames good at. What are some organizational strengths? From my perspective, one of the strongest organizational strengths is the way in which this team drafts and develops players. That's what makes a rebuild attractive to me - it directly capitalizes on an organizational strength, while minimizing an organizational weakness (attracting impact UFAs).
It is not 'playing the lottery and hoping for the best'. That's a poor attempt to discredit a rationale. Flames are obviously not going to 'hit' on every pick selected, but go back and look through the drafting history. Flames have been a top-drafting and development team for some time now - that's what makes this appealing to me.
What's your plan if you feel that building a team in this way is akin to simply playing the lottery and doing a lot of hoping and praying?
