If the Flames are willing to retain on players I believe teams would move first round picks and then some. Players like Hagel and Coleman have returned first round picks at the deadline for 2 reasons (besides their ability):
They are cheap and they had an extra year on their deal giving the acquiring team 2 full playoff runs with them.
Flames could pull off multiple deals like that this deadline if they wanted to.
Backlund at 2.6
Lindholm at 2.4
Toffoli at 2.1
Hanifin at 2.4
Tanev at 2.2
Zadorov at 1.8
Obviously you can’t trade everybody, but the options are there. Teams that are going all in the next two seasons should be licking their chops at this.
