The incredible can be accomplished with sufficient planning, resources, and execution. To say a government could coordinate landing people on the moon and bringing them safely back in the 60's seems less incredible than coordinating lies believed by the general population via centralized control of information.

That kinda thing may work in China, but you can't keep a secret that big in the US. Someone always speaks. Then you have the logical improbability of it all. Many people watched rocket launches, so they actually built rockets to go tot space. You'd have to be a moron to discount that. So once you get that far, why is it so hard to make the next logical leap? And you'd have to make up a lot more elaborate stories to explain this:
