Good GM's lock up their good young players when they have the hammer, for some reason Treliving stopped doing that.

It's exactly what Tampa did.
They gave Kucherov 3 years at $4.8M the same offseason we locked up Gaudreau for 6 years, and they gave Point 3 years at $6.75M the same offseason we signed Tkachuk for 3 years. Seems to have worked out fine for them.
Winning and marketplace makes a big difference.
The sad part is that Flames actually had a really good season...and it still didn't make a difference.
