If Calgary can get two first round picks, they need to jump on it and run.

Tkachuk is an extremely good player, but his contract situation decreases his value considerably. He has the leverage in any contract negotiation, so he can effectively pick his team.

Calagry will just be in the position of taking the best deal offered. Or be prepared to lose him for nothing.
You are probably right, two firsts and run. That would be marginally better than the Iginla trade (of course the Flames got 16 years of service out of Iggy compared with 6 out of Tkachuk). But I guess getting the second first instead of a 1st and a former 3rd round pick and a former 5th round pick is probably because they are getting Tkachuk for 82 games instead of the 13 games Pittsburgh got Iggy for. Plus the age difference (likely getting Tkachuk for another 8 years on top compared with maybe 3 more expected years when the Flames traded Iginla). The larger potential market for Tkachuk (assuming it is more than one team like it was for Iginla) should drive up the amount the Flames receive as well.
