But why make that assumption?
The Flames talked to Gaudreau all last summer, didn't like where it was going and made a collective call to stay the course and not trade him.
I'd assume they've been discussing long term contracts with Tkachuk as well, getting a feel, plotting a course.
Highly possible that his camp wanted to see where Gaudreau went first. They may have looked at moving him last summer but didn't like the return, as they did with Gaudreau. Could have also looked at moving him at the draft.
If it comes to light that Treliving was asleep at the wheel, didn't understand the timelines, and that the ownership didn't ask any questions and the whole thing just slid off the cliff I'll push you out of the way in getting to the front of the pissed off line.
But most of that is unlikely so why use it as a basis of logic or fact to base an argument?
