Chicago traded all their players this off-season so next off-season they will be drafting high.
Gaudreau isn’t signed so he’s gone, trade Tkachuk to NJ for that 2nd overall, find a spot for Markstrom, trade for Mrazek to recoup a first round pick in 2022, so they draft 2nd and 25th, then go into this season with no hope of competing giving them the best chance possible to draft a franchise player next season. Like Chicago did.

Flames have a lot farther to fall than Chicago. Getting to bottom three would require more than punting Tkachuk and Markstrom.
