Well Pepsi, we don't know what number Tkachuk's team is going to drop on the arbiter. Could be a big number the arbiter picks in between and the Flames are then on the hook for a big salary for the year, and he's still an UFA next summer. The only benefit is time they get to extend negotiations. There's no benefit for Tkachuk to sign until the arbiter awards him more than $9M qualifying offer.
