Or at worst it means Tkachuk makes more money this year than if he had accepted his QO, lowering his trade value as he becomes a UFA. And discourages potential trade partners who may have kicked tires, especially as more UFA fallout occurs (Kadri signing for example) and they don’t want to have to be prepared to go to arbitration with a player who could command 8 figures without preparation if his arbitration date is set for July 27th.
