A team would be nuts to give up those assets for only one year of guaranteed Tkachuk, but even if they did offer him 10M, the Flames match and they’re pretty much at this exact spot where the arbitrator can award anywhere from 9M (minimum) to much more.

Once again, I think the risk of an offer sheet was minimal at best.
The biggest benefit here is extra time to negotiate/find a trading partner.
The Flames will not (or should not) be letting this get to arbitration.
