I get that we're all still reeling from John leaving but let's not over assume things here.
I see this as a positive to take the element of signing the QO. It could be as simple as Chucky and his agent feel his value is worth x for a long term deal and the Flames think it's Y and Chucky was threatening that because of the gap he was willing to do a "bet on me" deal by accepting his QO.
This now would give them more time (at least until July 27, depending on when his arbitration gets scheduled). So a minimum extension of 5 days.
People can read into him not wanting to be here, or how far apart they may be etc. etc. But this really gives them a lot more flexibility (on signing, trading and etc.) with basically no downside in realistic terms.
