Even if they make space this year, Colorado will need to sign MacKinnon and Byram next year, Toews the year after that. Johnson's 6M will be off the books but it's not enough.
I think Kadri should see the writing on the wall when Nichushkin and Lehkonen (RFA) were signed before him.
Makar, Toews, Byram and now Manson might be a top 4 they are comfortable going with making Girard expandable to sign Kadri, but unless they get an amazing return I just think sticking with Girard would be the better alternative.
I do agree with you that it's very likely Kadri is hoping they do, but it's probably less likely that Colorado is looking to move mountains to re-sign him.
