His job to know? That’s “magic GM” thinking, if you mean know a certainty. Unless Gaudreau up and tells him, he can’t know. And if Gaudreau tells him that he’s willing to sign, he just needs a good deal, what do you do with that?
But I agree with the weighing of options. Last summer he was (a) being told a deal was possible and (b) was dealing with a guy who scored 49 points in 56 games (and 58 in 70 the year before). What’s the return on a one year rental player like that?
