Man, if he did sign his QO and was therefore essectially gone after next season this actually would be an incredible way to maximize his trade value. A contender would pay through the nose for Tkachuk at $4.5 even for a Cup run alone (but for a whole season rather than a trade deadline pick up), PLUS the ability to negotiate all season before free agency.
Reality though? - We sign players, including a "way less good Gaudureau to replace Gaudreau" and will be at or near the cap and won't be able to do that. Then we go "all in" this season again and lose Tkachuk after that.
God I hope I'm wrong.
