But as you get into the mid and later rounds the risk is managed already by virtue of the fact the player already has an extremely low probability of being an NHLer and even lower to be a star. So in those rounds - I would factor it in a lot less.

But in the first if you have two guys that are pretty close to a coin flip, it can be a tie breaker for sure.
Gaudreau was a win because he was picked at a point where a team is just happy if they get a full time NHL player out of it. Fox was also a great pick in the 3rd round because he was worth two 2nd round picks that the Hurricanes got for him. However if we are talking 1st round and it's between a Canadian and US born player taking the college route if they are very close I think you have to go with the Canadian player.
