Tkachuk and Mangiapane are two totally different contracts to sign.

Tkachuk is a multimillionaire, Mangiapane a millionaire.

I see both players regressing this year. They wont be worth what they are now at the end of next season.

That is assuming they don’t get hurt along the way. Tkachuk can probably take that risk. I don’t think Mangiapane will. Tkachuk over 20 million in earnings, Mangiapane 2 million?

I think Mangiapane takes a contract at around 5 million for 3 to 4 years. If he gets hurt or regresses he is set for life.

Tkachuk is already set for life. If he signs with the Flames right now it will be the best contract offer he gets. If he waits a year his point totals will go down. Smaller contract. If he gets hurt a lot smaller contract. He can afford to risk it. Mangiapane can not.

If I am Treliving I say look at Monahan. He got hurt. He signed with us long term and got hurt. When his contract is over whether he can still play or not he made over 44 million dollars. Now imagine if he signed a one year contract and then got hurt? Would of lost out on over 30 million dollars.

Just my opinion.

A smart player would sign the contract then request a trade if they really want to leave.
