If Johnny pulled the rug out from an agreement in the final days, yeah that sucks for Treliving who put a lot of myopic hope in re-signing him. But the bigger picture is that everyone ought to have realized that JG was a flight risk for a while. All the dots were there to connect. He was obviously not committed to re-signing for a long time. Whatever happened in those final weeks after the season ended is a moot point when Treliving had the power to not allow it to get there in the first place.
