Columbus now has just north of 2.3M to play with this season and has yet to sign Laine. His last contract had a cap hit of 6.75M and a QO of around 7.8Mish. If he signs an offer sheet, he would no longer be eligible for a trade out of Columbus.
Anything under 8.4M is a 1st and 3rd compensation to the losing team, and very difficult for Columbus to match.
At times Laine was absolutely dominant, and Sutter teaching him for a year could work wonders in terms of consistency. A line of Tkachuk - Lindholm - Laine would also be a lot to handle.
Just thinking out loud.
