They're just grappling with their incessant and unaddressed need to try to control and enforce the behaviors of people around them on THE least enforceable medium of communication that exists.
You might as well hit yourself over the head with a hammer and you would be doing something more worthwhile.
I do hope Lanny finds peace in these beautiful summer days though. I feel like there is good, calm and tolerant person under there somewhere. Deeeep, deep under there.
