If Calgary were to rebuild, this is what I would do:

STL: Valimaki and Tkachuk
CGY: Kyrou, Tarasenko, 2023 1st

- Kyrou would be a cornerstone RW for the Flames for years to come. This is only if we cannot sign a long term deal with Tkachuk, he’s the better player. But, this would be the route I’d take if we had to pivot away from Tkachuk.

LA: Hanifin
CGY: Byfield + Walker + *cond. 2023/2024 1st

- I’m not sure if LA would do that but I think they’d do it based on the glaring need for a top pairing LD. Could probably do it without the second but Byfield has been disappointing as of late. Could be a steal for Calgary. The cond. 1st is based on LA making the playoffs. If they miss it in 2023 (which I doubt), then defer the pick to 2024. I would even be fine with Hanifin for Byfield straight up if it came down to that.

COL: Lindholm (50%) and Markstrom
CGY: Francouz, Newhook, 2023 1st, Compher, Girard, 2024 2nd

-A lot going on here but Colorado easily goes to the Cup Final again with Lindholm as 2C and Markstrom as their 1A with Georgiev as the 1B. A 52/30 split would be ideal for this duo. Flames get Girard as their new top pairing LD, with Kylington and Zadorov as the 2nd/3rd LD’s

OTT: Tanev
CGY: Zaitsev + **2023/2024 1st + Greig

- Ottawa already showed signs of wanting to compete, Tanev and Chabot or Tanev and Sanderson would be quite the pairing. I actually think we could get a little more if we are taking on Zaitsev as a cap dump, but a top prospect and a 1st seemed like enough in my books. The 1st has the same conditions as the LA trade, conditional based on making the playoffs. If they don’t make the playoffs they can defer the pick to next season.

Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Compher - Newhook - Kyrou
Dube - Byfield - Toffoli
Ruzicka - Lewis - Rooney
Lucic, Monahan

Girard - Andersson
Kylington - Zaitsev
Zadorov - Walker

That should get us a top 10 pick in a deep draft. And some cornerstone players like Kyrou, Byfield, Newhook, and Girard to build on off of Andersson, Dube, Mangiapane, and Kylington. Goaltending-wise we could see Vladar get some more starts splitting time with Francouz. Lastly, this lineup would also give us a great opportunity to slot in Pelletier and Phillips at any time. Both deserve a call up.

- Toffoli, Walker, Compher, (maybe Backlund) could be sold for future assets.
- We get some top picks to either use or be used as currency to acquire players that WANT to be in Calgary long term.

This is ONLY if we want to scorch the current team we have. The only one i do have a reservation for is the Colorado deal because I truly believe Lindholm would extend his contract to play here. Then again, I’ve no idea anymore.
