The show was never meant to be 100% realistic. The other issue is how would the world have been different if there had been superheros. If people genuinely believed that there were other people born with the ability to fly and wipe you out with laser eyes or super speed, would that change the way our democracy works? Basically, like having WMDs in use, with no real control over them. Society would seem a lot more fleeting.
They are definitely trying to portray America as more polarized, which in a world with superheros, it would be. So major steps towards fascism, like executing a protestor are likely to be more common/tolerated.
I think we'll likely Homelander getting elected to head some kind of fascist rule, and Stormfront back somehow. I found her off screen death odd. Why establish that she was still alive and then have her chew her own tongue off, off screen?
