Calgary doesn't want to lose their other high-profile player.
Tkachuk knows without Gaudreau, he is likely not to repeat his 40 goal, 100pt season. I mean, nobody is going to pay him as a 40 goal, 100 point perennial player after achieving the feat just once, but it is certainly easier to sign for more money and term after such a season than one where he finishes with only 20 odd goals and 70 odd points. Plus there is always a chance at injury that changes your ability (like Monahan's appears to).
Plus, there is a strong chance he gets to be captain. Getting traded to another team almost assures that he is not captain for at least a season or two. I am sure it grinds his gears a bit knowing his younger brother is a captain and he isn't.
I will be surprised if Tkachuk isn't signed in the next week or two.
Then Treliving gets to look forward to Mangiapane, and considering his agent's previous remarks, this should be a fun one. I thought Gaudreau would have re-signed, and Mangiapane would have been trade bait. I guess we will see what happens there. Kylington should be the easiest to negotiate obviously.

Tkachuk will take his time and sign just before or during training camp. It's what they do. He's been qualified. What risk does he have? Sign his one year and go to UFA and pick where he wants to go next July.
