FWIW, re: Phillips doesn't score enough — just because Pelletier is excellent, comparatively speaking, doesn't mean Phillips isn't also in a class of his own offensively in the A.
He was 23 for almost the entire 2021–22 regular season (turned 24 when the playoffs started). The eight players in the entire league who finished ahead of him in the scoring race were 27, 29, 28, 28, 26, 28, 26, and 26 at the start of the season.
He and JJ Peterka were the only two guys younger than 26 at the start of the year to finish top-10 in scoring. Phillips might not score enough in the NHL if given a shot, but it's hard to argue that he hasn't earned one at this point.
