For me, I feel like to get the Saul we knew from BB, he must have had a good amount of confidence that Lalo was gone this time. I can't imagine he would have embraced the flamboyant personality and outgoing demeanor if he was still worried for his safety.
With that said, the desert scene in BB where he assumes it is still Lalo would have been some sort of Deja Vu. He had no reason to fear for his life so he just assumed somehow Lalo was back again.
It's the same reason I never thought Kim was in danger. The Saul we know from BB wasn't in fear or mourning; he was someone that lost every shred of Jimmy and leaned into the Saul persona. I only see that happening if Kim leaves willingly and its Jimmy's fault. He loses and connection to Jimmy and copes by becoming the sleaziest version of himself he can.
