Most likely it's this. For as much as we like to bash Columbus, it's a decent American city (and fairly safe). It's just a sleeper town, that's all.
I can't imagine the Gaudreaus wanting to live close to Newark, New Jersey. It's kind of unsafe.
When it was obvious that the Flyers wouldn't be able to sign him, he chose the next best offer in a location that he and his family would like.
