As I pointed out elsewhere, as a Flame he was playing 5 road games a year against those five teams. Now that he's in the division, he will play 9 or 10 depending on the particular season. It's not that big a difference.
Compare to the situation if he actually had signed with one of those teams. In that case, he would be playing 7 or 8 road games plus all 41 home games, and living in the area to boot.
