Since we are making stuff up. My made up scenario is that he wanted it to be Philly.
Philly perhaps communicated to him that they could clear the room required to make him the offer he needed.
Then they couldn't or decided they didn't want to give up the asset required (1st) to dump JVR.
When Philly backed out, CBJ came storming in...and Johnny's agent advised him to sign because the game of musical chairs was coming to an end, and he might be left without a chair.
The only flaw in that is I can't figure out what happened to NJD.
