Sorry all. I have been firmly on the 'Fire Treliving' train for a while now. Not out of anger, but I've laid out my reasons.
But this Gaudreau signing someone vindicates him, at least somewhat.
Initially you could excuse Treliving because if a player is going to make a decision based on family reasons you are limited in your power to do anything about that.
It seems to me that he was negotiating against an impossible task.
There is nothing a GM can do about Geography, Family, Feelings, etc.
But Treliving offered him more money, more term, a better team and a place where he has been for years, then there is legacy, granted I dont know how much players value that.
The only part where we can fault Treliving is not taking a harder-line stance and trading Johnny last off-season.
But the guy just pissed away $15.4M to....play in Ohio?
And Treliving seemed convinced that he could sign him. This is all just a big 'swing and a miss' all around.
