Panarin got his contract before there was such a thing as COVID, when the players didn't owe the owners a billion dollars, and the prospects looked good for the cap to keep going steadily up.
Now we're dealing with a flat cap for two to three more years.
Somebody clearly doesn't know how pro sports contracts work, beginning with the part where you have to have money to spend money.
