His agent must have a good handle on the market and they're trying to squeeze out the best deal period while having him close to home, that's all.

Its also possible that certain dominos need to fall for whatever deal is brewing to go through.
The thing is, even if he were to pivot back to Calgary...that would be a tough sell and he's burned that 8th year, as you said.
