At the end of the day, people are going believe what they want to believe about Johnny's character. We're not part of his inner circle, we don't know how he thinks.
But I choose to believe he truly was conflicted about staying or going down the the last minute. He most likely tried his hardest to make it work with his family should he choose to stay in Calgary, but ultimately, chose a situation that worked best for them all. There's no shame in that, and I have nothing but respect for him. Yah, it sucks as a Flames fan, but at the end of the day, it's jus sports. No need to launch into personal attacks on him or his family's character IMO.
