The one thing they cannot do is allow Tkachuk to walk next year, either sign or trade before the season starts. My gut feeling with Gaudreau was that he was going to prioritize family/location over money, with Tkachuk my feeling is he's orchestrated this chance at early free agency and is going to take this opportunity to earn a massive contract. Flames are in a tough spot if that's the case, teams are spending their budgets this week and getting rosters settled. Will get tougher for a team to take on the $9M contract as the summer goes on.
