Round and a round we go.
Fire Treliving for sure if any of the following are true ...
1) He told the ownership group to reject the Gaudreau offer last year even though they were in support of getting it done.
2) He told the ownership group not to worry, the kid was going to have a brutal year and his value was going to come off
3) He told the ownership group he was going to sign this summer, no issues.
They probably don't fire Treliving if they were kept apprised of the situation and made a decision as a group with all parties fully understanding the risks.
Proclamations for firing someone without knowing who made what decision is just silliness in my mind.
But luckily the proof will be in the pudding. When he isn't fired this summer we will see that the ownership group doesn't see this as a performance issue, but the way the system works with all the risks understood.
