The Flames did not re-sign Johnny last year when the presumably could have because Johnny wasn't happy with the numbers because he hadn't had a great year. Calgary had their chance. Johnny bet on himself and won the jackpot.
Since that time he got married with a kid on the way, which likely has changed his perspective.
I do truly believe he was very conflicted about leaving;hence the long wait to find out.
At the end of the day, what has the wait cost Calgary?
His rights were never worth anything.
I guess they could have traded Tkachuk sooner, but they have lots of time to do that.
