Again. The only leverage here was teams thinking they had to compete against the Flames. Now they know the Flames were never in it, so why do they even have to consider that offer? They only have to compete with each other.

Teams can tamper with a pending UFA whether his existing team is negotiating with him or not. If he had simply said he wasn't re-signing, all the negotiations could have been out in the open and he would have got all the leverage he needed from that.
You honestly think the biggest name to hit UFA in years hasn't got leverage already? You sound like the guy who added a lawnmower engine to his Ferrari to help it go faster.
