Yeah this is how I think it went down as well. Johnny seemed ready to sign on the dotted line last year.
That’s why I think it was vital to sign Johnny before the end of the season. This wasn’t a battle against Johnny’s clock, this was always a battle against the wife’s clock.
Johnny seems like the persuadable type by nature, give him a couple of months with the pregnant wife/family back home and they probably got comfortable with the idea of staying. Wife needs help with the baby, family nearby to help, it’s the perfect situation.
Management didn’t know who they were up against. They needed to make Johnny and his wife an offer they couldn’t refuse a long time ago.
