What's the alternative? Teaching a team to tank one year and then magically turning back the 'give a cr*p' dial back on the next after you have the number 1 pick in training camp?

Speaking for myself, I don't follow the Flames for the championships. They're my favourite team and I want them to compete, and that will create memories. If that compete level also brings the Cup then great - but I don't define my sports happiness around it.

I realized a long time ago that focusing on championships is a fool's errand for me. It's a losing proposition for 97% of fans every year. Either enjoy your team competing, or be angry for the majority of your sports fan life pretty much regardless of which team you watch*.

* Notable exceptions for some domestic european soccer leagues.
